A lot of times we will have a situation where electronic devices get submerged or splashed with liquid, first step is to DISCONNECT ANY POWER SOURCE as quickly as you can. Make sure you do it in a safe way use caution when disconnecting any Water Extraction device household, household current is a higher voltage that battery operated device. If you are standing in water because your house is been flooded get out of the water before attempting to unplug any device.

  1. The Water Extraction devices submerged and connected power, find the breaker box and switch off that circuit. If you are not sure which circuit your device is connected to, switch off the main breaker. Getting the submerged or so device if it contains a battery presents other dangers. Such as if the battery is shorted may create a fire or could possibly leak harmful chemicals. If you feel any or see any smoke, steam, bulging, melting or bulging, to not handle the device without proper precautions. If the device is still on make sure you turn it off.
  2. Shake the device rotate the device allowing any excess liquid to drain out. If you haven't already, remove the battery. If possible disassemble the Water Extraction device as far as you possibly can, if you have access to an air compressor blow the device out. This is especially important if the liquid was alkali such as laundry water, or any acidic liquids such as fruit juices. After doing this place your device in a warm dry place to allow the rest of the components to dry out. I have personally dropped myself all in a sewer drain and after pulling the battery and rinsing it off externally I placed it on the dash of the van in the heat of the sun, it dried out and worked fine the next day.
  3. We don't always get that lucky with Water Extraction devices especially if they were on when they were submerged in the flood. Electronic components can be particularly tricky when introduced to extreme amounts of liquid. I have also been informed that if you take electronic device and bury it in a container of uncooked rice for several days. The rice will draw the moisture out, rotating the device in the rice bath will ensure that most of the liquid drains out. Avoid using salt, sugar, or flour as these can get in and damage the Water Extraction components and circuit boards.
  4. Still the best way is to disassemble the item cleaning all components and circuit boards and then reassembling. A professional restoration company is probably your best bet at this. As they will have what they call thirsty bags, which are specifically designed to try out electrical and electronic components that have been submerged in liquid. If you are capable of disassembling your device removing all cables and opening all Water Extraction connectors. After doing as still suitable size container with isopropyl alcohol ideally 90% or higher concentration usually available from a pharmacist or drugstore.
