After your building or house has sustained a fire and the fire department has left, leaving your place a soggy smelly mess, now you must face the task of cleaning the Dehumidification. The whole purpose of drying your water damaged electronic equipment is to reduce the amount of time the electronics spent in an abnormally wet state and to return the affected electronics to a satisfactory level of dryness as quickly and safely as possible.

  1. Once the excess water is gathered and removed, dehydration of the remaining water in your Dehumidification must be promoted. To evade secondary water damage, moisture vaporizing into the air must be swapped with less humid air from other causes, and/or it must be gathered and eliminated from the air through dehumidification. Fans must also be utilized to direct air towards wet electronics to circulate air and promote drying. Try to open small holes along the bottom of walls, like behind the cove base to promote air circulation inside your wall cavities. Also, try operating your Dehumidification air-conditioning equipment helping the areas being dried nonstop, to promote proper dehumidification and ventilation.
  2. Care must be taken to guard openings to HVAC-equipment in any space when dust creating activities might happen as a result of electronic restoration work. Temperatures in the drying surrounding must be maintained to improve the dehydration rate and effectiveness of dehumidification. Upon first evaluation and through the rest of the electronic restoration project, notes must be kept documenting all steps taken to correct the Dehumidification problem. Pictures must be taken before, during and after all fire cleanup procedures. In many cases, more widespread or specific documentation might be required or necessary, a specialist dealing with electronic equipment that was damaged by fire must be contacted with any questions in regards to electronic cleaning requirements.
  3. Water damaged electronics, especially those that are high-tech such as stereo equipment or computers, that have been wet for a long period of time or have been frequently wet could develop electronic contamination. If Dehumidification contamination is encountered during the course of the restoration project, water damage restoration activities must stop until such time that the area of existing or suspected electronic contamination is repaired. There are electronic restoration strategies to respond electronic contamination when found or suspected in high-tech electronics, including those mentioned above. These remediation procedures are for your high-tech electronics that have or are likely to have electronic contamination.
  4. These Dehumidification procedures are intended to protect the equipment and the electronic cleanup personnel during remediation and are based on the size and type of electronics affected by water damage and/or fire damage. If possible, electronic remediation activities must be scheduled during off-hours when computer components are less likely to be affected by water damage. Though the level of electronic equipment protection suggested in these articles are based on the total surface area that was contaminated and the possibility for electronic restoration and/or Dehumidification contamination exposure, professional decision must always play a role in remediation decisions.
