The expression mildew is sometimes used in conjunction with mold. Mildew is mostly used to define kind of a specific mold fungus that grows on plants and is usually characterized by a soft downy, whitish or even silvery resemblance.   1. Molds are typically saprotropic, which means that they gather their food from dead, a moist carbon-based matter. These VOCs are likely accountable for the distinct musty odor related with mold growth. Research is being lead on the health effects of VOCs created by molds.
