In many houses, gabled tops are built utilizing manufactured trusses. Sheets of top sheathing, often plywood, are attached to the trusses with spikes or tacks, and topping materials is attached to the sheathing. In many Tornado Damage cases, the only item holding the trusses in spot is the plywood on top. This might not be adequate to hold the top in spot during a typhoon.
  4. Placing additional truss bracings makes your top’s truss system much stronger. To inspect your top’s Tornado Damage bracing, go into your attic. While laboring in your attic, you shall wear clothing that covers your skin, labor gloves, a hat, eye protections, and a dust masks. If your attic did not have a floor, be careful to walk only on the wooden joists, or place boards widely adequate to walk on as you labor. Notice where the plywood is attached to the truss systems. If many of the big spikes or tacks coming through the sheathing had missed the trusses, consider having the sheathing properly placed.
